If you like secluded lakes, Douglas firs and large brown bears, this is the hike for you.
What’s the hike? Lakes Trail to Heather Lake
Where is it? Sequoia Kings Canyon
How long? 7.2 miles (11.6 km)
How long really? I almost didn’t make it
How was it? One word: brutal. This seemingly never ending uphill climb in the summer heat nearly broke us. But there was so much to love along the way. You’re constantly surrounded by beautiful Douglas firs. We crossed paths with the largest brown bear I’ve ever seen. As the heat slowly gave way to a cool mist, we ascended to Heather lake surrounded by the winter snow. Trust me, it’s worth the climb.
Was it eazy? Hard AF
What should I take? Water, hiking poles and a lot of breaks
