The Seven Mile Hole is a challenging hike down a beautiful canyon.
What’s the hike? Seven Mile Hole Trail
Where is it? Yellowstone National Park
How long? 9.7 miles (15.6 km) Out & Back
How long really? Pack everything you need and prepare yourself for a long hike.
How was it? It takes awhile for this hike to warm up, but be patient. It gets so much better. This trail begins at the Inspiration Point overlook and descends to the bottom of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone River, passing through forest, meadows and hot springs. There are stunning views of the canyon and cool hydrothermal hot spots along the way down to the riverbed. Take a break for lunch and a quick power nap, before making the long climb back up.
Was it ‘eazy’? Tough, but manageable
What should I take? Plenty of water, good hiking shoes for the steep descent and a packed lunch
